Palm Springs Film Festival to honour Helen Mirren

The 21st annual Palm Springs International Film Festival will bestow its Career Achievement Award on Helen Mirren at the fest’s awards gala on Jan. 5 at the Palm Springs Convention Center.

An Oscar winner for “The Queen,” Mirren stars in “The Last Station,” playing Leo Tolstoy’s wife. Sony Pictures Classics is releasing the film on Dec. 23.

“Mirren is one of the most outstanding actresses of her generation and she delivers another fine performance in ‘The Last Station’,” festival chairman Harold Matzner said.

The festival runs Jan. 5-18.
